The Treasure Valley Shade Tree Project is a partnership between the Treasure Valley Canopy Network, Idaho Power Company, Idaho Department of Lands and Arbor Day Foundation's Energy Saving Trees Program.

This project is targeted at providing shade trees to residential homeowners to be planted for energy conservation.

Planting a shade tree to the West of a Treasure Valley home can result in up to 15% reduction in summer cooling costs.

In collaboration with several local municipalities and with public and private partners, the project started in Fall of 2013 and to-date has planted over 13,000 shade trees on residential property throughout the Treasure Valley, Magic Valley and Portneuf Valley (encompassing 17 counties within Idaho Power’s service area across Southern Idaho).

In 2019, the Shade Tree Project expanded to Pocatello and Twin Falls, planting over 2,000 trees during both Spring and Fall distribution events.

The Shade Tree Project returns to the Treasure Valley in late April / early May 2020, with stops in Boise, Nampa, Meridian and Mountain Home! Residents in Ada, Canyon and Elmore Counties interested in participating in 2020 can visit Idaho Power's Shade Tree Project website.

IN ORDER TO ENSURE THE HEALTH & SAFETY OF OUR COMMUNITIES AND VOLUNTEERS IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19, WE ARE POSTPONING THE SPRING 2020 SHADE TREE EVENTS UNTIL FALL 2020.
